Vance is no Pence

Following his loss to Joe Biden in 2020, Donald Trump initiated numerous attacks on the election results. None of these attacks were successful. The one that stuck in Trump’s craw the most was the refusal of then VP Mike Pence to illegally stop the election certification on January 6th by refusing to accept certified electoral results from several key states.

For the 2024 election, Trump dropped Pence and chose J.D. Vance as his vice-presidential running mate. Vance recently stated: “If I had been vice president, I would have told the states, like Pennsylvania, Georgia and so many others, that we needed to have multiple slates of electors, and I think the U.S. Congress should have fought over it from there. That is the legitimate way to deal with an election that a lot of folks, including me, think had a lot of problems.”

In 2020, numerous recounts and lawsuits failed to unearth evidence of problems that would have changed the results of the presidential election. In addition, there is now a large list of Trump attorneys who have been disbarred or indicted for attempting to use false information to reverse the results of the election.

But for the honesty of Mike Pence, the presidential transition in 2021 could have been illegally compromised. Pence stood up for our democracy and it cost him the VP spot in the next election.

This scenario makes the possibility of Trump and Vance winning the election of 2024 so much more dangerous. These two individuals have no respect for the U.S. constitution or the rule of law. With his vote slinging VP Vance, Trump would be empowered to not only reverse the results of future elections, but possibly eliminate our presidential election process altogether.

Our democracy depends on the election of Kamala Harris and Tim Walls.
